A New Chapter in Anthroposophic Medical Education

The Anthroposophic Medicine Fall Retreat: a newly imagined immersive learning experience for physicians who want to deepen how they see, think, and care for patients.

Modern medicine rarely gives physicians the time to cultivate some of the capacities that matter most: The ability to observe more deeply, to think more broadly, to see the human being more completely.

These capacities can’t be downloaded or outsourced: they develop through experience.

That is why we have reimagined the Anthroposophic Medicine Fall Retreat, November 5-8, 2026, at Mount Madonna in California.

This new 3½-day immersive experience is built around the kind of learning that changes practice by cultivating clinical perception. Through observation, artistic work, nature, dialogue, and practical application, participants strengthen ways of seeing and thinking that continue to shape patient care long after the retreat ends.

Designed to fit today's professional lives while preserving the richness of in-person learning, this is a completely new educational experience.

Even if you have attended previous Fall Retreats, this year's program features a newly developed curriculum, a new educational format, and new opportunities for learning and CME credit.

Why Experiential Matters

Anthroposophic Medicine begins with a broader understanding of the human being. Everything about this retreat has been built around that perspective.

Rather than a series of lectures, it is an immersive educational experience that develops new clinical perception, practical skills, and habits of observation that physicians can immediately bring back into practice.

You’re invited to a different way in a beautiful setting

Learn with physicians who invite you into a different way of observing, thinking, and practicing.

Adam Blanning, MD, and Carmen Hering, DO, don't simply teach Anthroposophic Medicine. They invite physicians into a different way of observing, thinking, and practicing.

Drawing on years of clinical practice, teaching, and mentorship, they guide participants through experiences that are clinically grounded, intellectually engaging, and immediately relevant to patient care.

We require your presence

Some forms of learning simply require presence.

Throughout the retreat, you'll engage in phenomenological observation, artistic exercises, therapeutic demonstrations, physical examination, clinical case discussions, and meaningful conversations with fellow physicians.

Gaining information is great. Our goal is to help you develop a richer way to see and treat patients.

Join colleagues who broaden your perspective.

Whether you are new to Anthroposophic Medicine or have studied it for years, every participant contributes something valuable.

Some bring decades of Anthroposophic experience. Others bring decades of clinical experience from other medical disciplines.

The conversations between colleagues are one of the retreat's greatest strengths, creating opportunities to learn from one another while exploring new ways of approaching patient care.

Learn in an environment designed for reflection.

Mount Madonna is more than a beautiful location. Its natural surroundings create the space to slow down, observe, reflect, and reconnect with nature, with colleagues, and with the deeper questions of medical practice.

The setting becomes part of the learning.

Thoughtfully Designed for Today's Physician

We know stepping away from practice isn't easy. What was once a weeklong retreat is now 3 ½ days - November 5-8 (Thursday-Sunday).

This is not a shortened version of previous retreats. The curriculum, educational approach, and learning experience are all thoughtfully built to be deeply immersive, practical, and meet the time constraints of physicians today.

Earn CME credit

Whether attending for the first time or returning to experience the newly developed curriculum, participants may earn CME while engaging with fresh educational content.

Some Things Simply Have to Be Experienced

Consider the activites that shape how physicians care for their patients: careful observation, clinical judgment, meaningful dialogue. artistic exploration, time in nature.

Experience changes how we practice. That is why this retreat remains intentionally immersive and experiential.

Who Should Attend?

This retreat is designed for physicians who:

  • Want to deepen how they understand the human being in health and illness.

  • Are exploring Anthroposophic Medicine for the first time.

  • Have attended previous programs and want to experience the newly developed curriculum.

  • Value thoughtful dialogue with colleagues committed to whole-person medicine.

  • Are looking for an educational experience that will continue to influence their practice long after the retreat concludes.

Part of the 3-year Education & Development Pathway. Or Valuable on Its Own

The Fall Retreat is one component of the three-year Anthroposophic Medicine Education & Development Pathway, but it also stands on its own as a complete educational experience.

Many physicians begin their Anthroposophic journey here. Others return to deepen and renew their understanding.

Wherever you are in your professional development, you'll leave with practical clinical insights, renewed inspiration, and new capacities you can bring directly into practice.

The physicians who attend this retreat don't simply leave with new ideas.

They return with new ways of observing, new colleagues, and a renewed sense of why they entered medicine in the first place.

If that is the kind of learning you've been looking for, and in a setting as spectacular as Mount Madonna, we'd be honored to welcome you this November.
